The COLEAD online training platform is one of the tools developed by COLEAD to offer professional and continuing training to players in the agricultural sector.

Offering a range of self-study courses organized by theme, and tutored sessions for its beneficiary partners (see the dedicated question here), COLEAD's online training platform represents a large part of COLEAD's training offering.

COLEAD is a private-sector (not-for-profit) association. We design, manage and implement development programs in the agricultural and food sector, with the aim of contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Online and in the field, we provide technical assistance, professional training and support services covering research and innovation brokerage, regulatory and standards monitoring, market knowledge, networks and alliances, and access to finance.

Find out more about COLEAD.

The COLEAD platform is open to all. It is aimed at professionals in the agricultural sector including students in the fields concerned, and technical and/or educational experts who can support players in the sector through advisory support or training.

The platform is completely free of charge. Access to self-study courses is free and open to all. However, tutored training is reserved exclusively for learners from partner organizations that are beneficiaries of COLEAD and its programs.

COLEAD offers several freely accessible resources relevant to the agricultural sector:

  • An e-library
  • Statistics dashboards
  • Monitoring of EU regulations
  • A crop protection database

COLEAD works in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific.

COLEAD designs and manages several programs funded by donors (mainly the European Union and the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States). COLEAD also contributes to programs implemented or co-financed by other donors, including the French Development Agency (AFD), the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF), Enabel (the Belgian Development Agency) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

To find out if you can become a partner-beneficiary of one of these programs, consult the dedicated page on the COLEAD website.

COLEAD offers training on 8 themes all linked to the agricultural sector: sustainable production and trade, food production and processing, environmental management, organizational management and development, food safety, respect for the individual and professional development, plant health.

These training courses are aimed at professionals in the agricultural sector including students in the relevant fields, and technical and/or educational experts who can support players in the sector through advisory support or training.

COLEAD offers self-study courses that you can follow freely, at your own pace, on subjects that interest you. To find out more, see "4. Self-study courses".

COLEAD also offers tutored training (supervised by a trainer). These courses are reserved for COLEAD beneficiary partners. You can also consult the list of current and upcoming tutored courses on this page.

This depends on the type of training. For self-study courses, access is unlimited. For tutored courses, the content is reserved exclusively for invited learners who have participated in the session. The course remains accessible to them and they can consult it as long as it is open, for a period of 6 months after the end of the session.

We have integrated a glossary of definitions of technical or scientific terms related to agriculture. You can find the glossary here. It is also accessible from the flyout tab on the right of each course.

Yes, as in any technical field, training courses contain acronyms commonly used in agriculture (e.g.: LCA, GAP, HACCP, IPPC, etc.).

To help you, a list of acronyms with their full transcript is accessible at any time from the flyout tab on the right of each course. You can also find the list of acronyms here.

The list of your courses is available via the "My course program" menu or via your dashboard, in the "Recently viewed courses" section.

Click on "Self-study courses" in the navigation bar. Select a theme then choose a course within that theme.

Finally, select the course that interests you and click on "Access the course".

Click on the green "Enroll" button at the bottom of the page. The course will be displayed in the "My course program" page available in the menu.

Within the same course, courses are organized by progressive levels. When starting a course, you can only access the introductory or intermediate level. By passing the end-of-level test, you will be able to access the next level (see How to access the advanced level of a self-study course).

First, you must pass the intermediate level certification test with at least 70%. Once the test is passed, an enrollment key will appear at the bottom of the intermediate level course page. Copy it. Go to the advanced level course page and paste the key in the "Enrollment key" field at the bottom of the page. You will then access the next level course.

Before beginning your learning, we recommend that you consult this page with our advice on the best way to study on the COLEAD platform.

You can also consult this page which informs you of the different types of questions in mini-quizzes and certification tests.

Registration for tutored courses is by invitation from COLEAD.

You can consult the list of current and upcoming Tutored Training courses on this page.

Tutored courses are only accessible to COLEAD beneficiary partner members who have signed a standard or customized support project. For more information on the subject, you can refer to the question in the "1. General" section of the FAQ. You can also visit the COLEAD website or contact us via a form.

Self-study courses are freely accessible.

COLEAD ensures that the training environment (the location, whether real or virtual, communication, respect for ethical principles, etc.) is as conducive as possible to learning and well-being. This is particularly important for tutored courses. COLEAD has drawn up a code of conduct for trainers as well as for learners. In tutored courses, everyone is required to read and respect it.

For self-study courses, certificates are available from advanced level. If you complete all required steps of the course (videos, quizzes, final assessment), and pass the final test with at least 70%, a certificate of achievement will be issued.

For tutored courses, the conditions for obtaining may vary. In most cases, a certificate of participation is issued to learners who have attended all training days/activities. Some courses may also award a certificate of achievement depending on the score obtained in assessment tests. For precise conditions, refer to the description of the course you are taking.

Once you have successfully completed a course that qualifies for a certificate of achievement (intermediate or advanced level for self-study courses / if specified for tutored courses), your certificate is available on the course page. You can download it. It is also available on your profile.

The certificate can also be published on LinkedIn by clicking on the corresponding button in the "Certificate" activity.

In self-study courses, 2 types of tests are offered: certification tests and mini-quizzes. Passing the certification test allows you to obtain your certificate of achievement.

To learn more about these tests and the types of questions, click here.

A badge is a reward you can receive under certain conditions. There are four different types of badges in the same course:

  • Introduction badge: You receive this badge when you complete the introduction level of the course with a score of 90% or higher.
  • Intermediate level badge: You receive this badge when you complete the intermediate level of the course with a score of 90% or higher.
  • Advanced level badge: You receive this badge when you complete the advanced level of the course with a score of 90% or higher.
  • "Course" badge: You receive this badge when you complete all levels of a course.

Yes, this is entirely possible. Offline mode allows you to download and then view the course without needing a permanent Internet connection. This feature facilitates module consultation for learners who do not have a quality connection.

However, certain activities such as tests, the certificate or the introductory level must be done online and require a connection.

From my computer:

  1. When you are online, on the course page, an "Offline mode" block is located in the right-hand menu. To display this menu, click on the "<" at the top right of the page.
  2. Click on the course download link in the "Offline mode" block. The following steps can be done offline.
  3. You must fully unzip the downloaded zip file into a folder. To do this, right-click on the zip file and select "Extract All". Choose the location to unzip the file.
  4. Open the directory corresponding to the course you wish to browse, then double-click on the "index.html" file.

If the "index" file does not open, right-click on it. Choose "Open with" and select your web browser.
