Integrated Pest Management for Avocado
You want to develop your skills on the identification, monitoring and management of the main pests and diseases for the avocado crop and specifically the newly emerging Persea Mite (oligonychus perseae)?

The MAHEBER programme, implemented by COLEAD, is part of the Green Business Development for Sustainable Agro-Food Systems in Ethiopia initiative, funded by the European Union under the NDICI-Global Europe instrument and included in the Multi-Annual Indicative Programme (MIP) for Ethiopia 2024-2027.
Who this training is for and what you will learn

At the end of this training, you will be able to:

Identify key avocado pests and diseases prevalent in Ethiopia

Implement effective monitoring by establishing regular avocado orchard scouting routine using standardized methods and tools e.g., scouting forms

Assess the robustness of their current pest and disease management strategy and estimate their current yield losses due to pest and disease pressure

Draft the pest and disease monitoring strategy, including methodology and equipment for their farm operations

Record/ scout and analyze scouting data and apply economic thresholds for timely interventions

Select the most appropriate control measure based on pest pressure, feasibility, registered and approved products
- Implement intergrated pest management for Persea Mites
To ensure a successful learning experience, please review the course prerequisites before registering.
- Working for a company already active in avocado production and/or packaging in Ethiopia
Will be shared together with the mail confirming your selection to participate
Logistical conditions
- Training costs (room and equipment rental, training materials, trainer fees);
- Meal costs for all training days;
- Accommodation costs under certain conditions and for the training period (see point 8).
- All other expenses that may be necessary (transportation, overnight stay and/or meals before and/or after training, etc.).
- Any extras (internet and telephone connections, taxi, etc...). Therefore, please provide extra money or a credit card to cover these possible expenses.
- Logistics and transportation costs for the expert-coach during the coaching phase (in the case of practical exercises carried out within your organization and benefiting from individualized coaching (=Time 2/PTS))
- During training days, all participants will be served within the training center: a morning and afternoon coffee break, as well as lunch.
- During training days, these participants will be accommodated in half-board at the training center/hotel selected by COLEAD. This includes overnight stay, breakfast and dinner.
- Accommodation will be provided from the evening before the training until the morning after the end of the training.
- Participants must comply with the services reserved by COLEAD.
- Any extras (bar, telephone, ...) must be paid directly by the participant.
- Any cost incurred by a late departure will be charged to the participant and/or their organization.
- By air, in economy class, with an exchangeable and refundable ticket only
- Via public transport (bus, train, taxi)
- By personal vehicle (if no other alternative is possible and always favoring carpooling as much as possible)
