This MOOC is organized as part of the development cooperation between the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the European Union.

  Who this training is for and what you will learn  

  • It is adressed to : Consultant (Advisory & Advice), Company manager, Purchasing Manager, Packing Manager, Processing manager, Quality and traceability manager, Marketing Manager, Communications and CSR Manager, Sales and Customer Service Manager.

At the end of this training, you will be able to:

  •   Understand the fundamentals of packaging design, material properties, and their roles in protecting and promoting agri-food products.   
  •   Explore sustainable, cost-effective, and innovative packaging solutions tailored to the needs of small and medium-sized agri-food enterprises operating in local and international markets.   
  •   Navigate key regulatory standards for packaging and labeling, including international requirements (e.g., Codex, FDA, EU) and best practices in traceability and compliance.

To ensure a successful learning experience, please review the course prerequisites before registering.

  •   Be available on average 3 to 4 hours per week

Logistical conditions

Here you will find the conditions for participant coverage by the beneficiary organization and by COLEAD according to the Cost-sharing Principle agreed in the development project.

For the proper conduct of the training, participant attendance is highly recommended for all the synchronous sessions. It is important that each participant fully commits and participates actively. The benefit they will derive from this training depends on it. All participants must respect the schedules indicated in the training program and/or specified by the trainer(s).

In some training sessions, COLEAD materials and training materials will be provided to you. These documents will be useful in your daily activities and in improving good practices. We ask you to keep them carefully and make them available to your organization and staff.

Participants will be validly registered after written confirmation from us and receipt of this logistics note. Only participants who have received confirmation of their participation will be authorized to attend the training.

This course offers certificate of achievement. To obtain it you must pass a final exam and achieve a score of at least 70%. In the event that the number of participants is insufficient to ensure the proper conduct of a training, COLEAD reserves the right to postpone or cancel a training. Thank you for your understanding.

Who will train you?

We are pleased to welcome today Dr. Mark Tutu Sarpong (PhD),a recognized professional in the field of agri-food packaging and labelling, with extensive experience in training design and facilitation. He has supported numerous small and medium-sized enterprises across the agri-food value chain, combining solid technical expertise with a deep understanding of practical realities in contexts such as the West African horticultural sector.

Passionate about making knowledge accessible, Dr. Sarpong is known for his ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and to adapt his approach to diverse audiences.

We are pleased to welcome today Dr. Viera Baricicova (PhD), an experienced specialist in quality management and control of fruit and vegetables, with strong expertise in European legislation and international standards. She has coordinated the drafting of sector-specific regulations and provided high-level consultation on packaging and labelling requirements, particularly in line with the EU Common Market Organisation rules.

With her extensive background, Dr. Baricicova will bring valuable insights, practical guidance, and a clear understanding of compliance challenges faced by agri-food enterprises.

We are pleased to welcome today Mrs. Zippy Ondisa Shiyoya , distinguished expert in packaging and labelling with more than 18 years of experience in the field. She has led numerous technical assistance projects across East Africa, supporting MSMEs through improved packaging systems, targeted training, and the development of practical toolkits and curricula.

In addition to her consulting work, she serves on the board of the Institute of Packaging Professionals Kenya and has collaborated with leading o rganisations such as Tetra Pak and the International Trade Centre. With her rich expertise and r egional perspective, Mrs. Shiyoya will share concrete tools, innovative approaches, and inspiring examples to strengthen your packaging strategies.
