This training is organized within the framework of development cooperation between the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the European Union.

Who this course is for & what you will learn

  • A Quality Officer and a Deputy officially designated by your organisation

By the end of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Understand the fundamentals of a quality management system applied to the health and safety of horticultural products.
  2. Identify and map the key processes necessary for implementing an effective quality management system.
  3. Define and develop operational policies, procedures and records tailored to regulatory requirements and best practices in health and safety control.
  4. Establish an effective organisational structure with defined roles and responsibilities to ensure stakeholder commitment and the sustainability of the quality management system.
  5. Establish monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure continuous improvement of the quality management system.
  6. Promote team buy-in through appropriate communication and committed leadership.

To ensure a successful learning experience, please review the course prerequisites before registering.

  • Having participated in the webinar "Introduction to a Quality Management System in SPS for Competent Authorities"
  • Having shared your quality policy statement (even in draft form) with COLEAD (nursel.gumusboga@colead.link).
  • To successfully follow this online training, you will need to demonstrate organisation, discipline, and motivation. Accordingly, please ensure that you have sufficient time available to complete the learning activities.

Logistical Conditions

To ensure optimal learning conditions, participant numbers are limited. You should only register if you commit to completing the entire training (live sessions, required activities, etc.). Participants who attend all sessions will be prioritized for future trainings and receive a certificate of participation. Conversely, COLEAD reserves the right to refuse candidates for future sessions in case of insufficient participation.

If there are too few participants to run a session, COLEAD reserves the right to postpone or cancel a training. Thank you for your understanding.

🎤 Trainer Presentation

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Stanley Kimaru and Ms. Beatrice Opiyo, two highly recognised experts in the field of food safety, quality management systems, and regulatory compliance with extensive experience working with the competent authority.

🔹 Dr. Stanley Kimaru brings over 30 years of experience across Africa in supporting competent authorities and agri-food businesses. He has led numerous training sessions and technical assistance missions on phytosanitary systems, plant health, food safety, and official controls. He is also a specialist in digital and blended training approaches, coaching trainers, and developing capacity-building modules for both public and private sectors.

🔹 Ms. Beatrice Opiyo is a senior expert and trainer in food safety and quality systems, with nearly 20 years of experience at the Kenya Bureau of Standards. She has developed and led numerous training programs on ISO standards (including ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, ISO 9001), hygiene practices, food law, packaging, and risk analysis. Her extensive involvement in certification, audits, and standards development makes her a valuable resource for improving market access and compliance in the food sector.
